Out With Old and In With The New (Year that Is)

Well the year of 2013 has been a roller-coaster for Lake Country Family Fun to say the least.  The year started with what I felt was the biggest thing that would happen in the year, Lake Country Family Fun was featured in MetroParent Magazine in the January issue.  Once that article happened, I knew I was onto something.  What I was doing had been noticed, but little did I know what else was going to happen and how I am my company was going to grow and change!  We started with just the Lake Country portion of Waukesha County, and now we cover all of Waukesha County and even many events in the Metro Milwaukee area!

In 2013 I also changed the website completely, which has been one of the best choices I have made to date.  I was encouraged by a fan of the site (Hi Kevin!) that there was so much more I could be doing with the site, and he was right!  I love the new website, it is pretty awesome!  Also, with the new website, came a new logo.  She is pretty awesome as well.  I can’t thank the friends that have helped me along the way with the logos, both initial and the current one.

During the early spring of 2013 I somehow thought the idea of creating Hartland Kids Day needed to be done, and well, I did it!  I couldn’t have done that without my dear friend Jen Shoemake.  She is amazing and one of the most driven people I have ever met.  She sat through Village of Hartland Meetings and went through the ups and downs that came with trying an idea that hadn’t been tried in Hartland.

Hartland Kids Day

Needless to say, Hartland Kids Day came from just an idea in my head to an event that had over 50 businesses there, tons of fun with the entertainment, bounce houses, rock wall and delicious food.  The weather didn’t want to cooperate, it was a misty and overcast July 31st in the morning.  By the time everything was said and done, the weather kept us cool (which is hard for a July day!) in the morning and then by the end of the event the sun had come out and there were over 1500 people in attendance!  It was AMAZING!  I can’t wait to see what Jen and I come up with for 2014, but I can assure you it is going to rock. 2013 also brought the 2nd Annual Oconomowoc Costume Swap!  At the first swap in 2012 there were around 20 costumes swapped.  I was invited to be on Todays TMJ4 to talk about the swap and that was such a great opportunity to see the video here is the YouTube link!

In 2013 there were over 100 costumes up for swap.  Craziness.  My friend of Katie Daubert Designs created a logo for the swap and I am so happy with it!  Bat Logo lcffI have a guest closet full of costumes waiting for the 2014 swap so make sure you all of your children’s to use at the 2014 swap!  Follow Oconomowoc Costume Swap on Facebook!

The coolest thing that happened in my home life is that my son Odyn proved that you can’t judge a book by its cover, the story is much deeper than what it appears.  He grew out his hair, and despite being called a girl for over a year, he succeeded and was able to donate 11 inches to other children who have lost their hair due to cancer.  He proved to himself and to others that it doesn’t matter how old you are you can make a difference!  To read his story click this link.

The last creation for 2013 was the idea of creating a Moms group aptly called Lake Country Family Fun Club MOM as a way for other Moms in the are to connect through playgroups and Moms Night Out events!
